ANDY Campbell is playing for big stakes.

At 26, he aims to become the Bill Gates of the computer games industry.

Campbell (third from left) and his fellow directors Andy Findlay, 29, (left) and Laurent Noel, 27, have gained backing from venture capitalist 3i for their company Red Lemon Studios.

Their backer has also injected some experience by appointing 33-year-old Peter McKeller (far right) as chairman.

The [pounds sterling]650,000 investment, to be announced tomorrow, follows a contract signed in May to develop a game for Sega's new console, Dreamcast, due to be launched next year.

The contract bag printing was won against competition from much bigger developers.

Glasgow-based Red Lemon is one of only five European developers commissioned by the Japanese computer games giant.

Andrew Davison of 3i believes the entrepreneurs have enormous potential.

He said: 'They have the ability to make Red Lemon a significant player in the games world, an industry worth [pounds sterling]5 billion today and growing rapidly.'
